What makes Hesselink Coffee sustainable?
Sustainable at Hesselink Coffee means more than just a sustainable coffee bean. Ecofys, a Dutch consultancy company for sustainable energy, has conducted numerious studies on this subject. This showed that the CO2 footprint of coffee is 14% at the plantation, 6% at the transport, 12% at the production process and 68% at the end use.
We influence these aspects by implementing sustainability in every aspect of our organization. This starts with the green coffee bean that we personally select for you and ends with a gift of happiness in the form of a cup of coffee.
Hesselink Coffee stands for sustainable CO2-neutral coffee, in every sense of the word. You can read how we select our sustainable coffee beans, how our roasters generate their own green energy and take other energy-saving measures throughout the coffee supply chain.
The Hesselink Coffee Foundation was set up to strengthen the pursuit of sustainability. From this foundation several sustainability projects are supported, such as a solar energy project in which coffee communities are provided with sustainable power supplies.
Of course, we also want to know what kind of effect of these environmental saving measures have had on the environment. That is why you will find disclosed in this report our CO2 emissions for 2015, 2016 and 2017 and how they are composed. Additionally, you will find more in-depth information about how we are trying to reduce CO2 emissions in the entire supply chain.
